So from wellness care and preventative medicine to specialized senior care and all the medical, diagnostic and surgical care along the way, we are prepared for whatever it takes to help improve and extend your pet’s life. We encourage you to become an active participant in your pet’s health care. We offer clients access to patient medical records through the VetScene pet portal, as well as an online store for your convenience. Morningside Animal Care Center offers a wide range of services to keep your companions feeling their best.

Because of the shorter life span of our pets, at Morningside we stress the importance of wellness care and preventative medicine. These biannual visits provide us with the opportunity to get an accurate and thorough snapshot of your pet’s overall health which we can then use to measure and monitor any changes that may occur along the way. Being able to examine your pet regularly allows us to identify any potential concerns and address them right a way before they develop into a more costly and serious problem. This early detection can greatly improve the quality and length of your pet’s life. The wellness care services at Morningside include a complete nose to tail physical examination, individualized vaccinations and parasite prevention plan, nutritional counseling and weight management, and any diagnostic testing that Dr. Morris may deem necessary. We also use this time to get to know you and your pet better and answer any questions or discuss any concerns that you may have. At Morningside our goal is to become your trusted partner in all of your pet’s health care needs. We look forward to working with you to help your pet live a long and healthy life.

Morningside utilizes a broad range of advanced diagnostics testing to better mange the ongoing health of our patients. We routinely do bloodwork analysis and X-rays including Digital Dental X-rays to allow for fast and accurate diagnosis and the development of a timely treatment plan We also provide EKG services on site, as well as consulting with a cardiology specialist. Our in house lab provides fast and accurate test results including serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis and parasite testing. We also utilize a commercial veterinary lab for specialized diagnostics and consultations. Whatever the need, we are equipped to provide reliable results so that your pet can return to his or her normal active, healthy lifestyle as soon as possible.

At Morningside we know that bringing your pet in for a surgical procedure, no matter how routine, can be a difficult time for you and your pet. I want to put you mind at ease and reassure you that when you entrust your pet to us for surgery, he or she will be in caring, capable hands. All surgical patients are thoroughly examined and tested beforehand by Dr. Morris to make sure that they are healthy enough to undergo surgery. We utilize only the safest anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety in our pain management, especially for our older or high risk patients. Our well-trained veterinary technicians utilize the most modern equipment available to closely monitor each surgical patient to ensure their safety and comfort at all times – before, during and following surgery. Once surgery is complete we will contact you to discuss how everything went and let you know when you can come to pick up your pet. When you arrive, we will go over any post surgical care instructions, including any take home pain medication to help your pet recover comfortably. The ultimate goal is to get your pet back on his or her feet as soon as possible.

At Morningside we take pride in the fact that we are always offering our clients new and innovative treatment options to better serve their pet’s veterinary care needs. We now offer laser therapy at our hospital. Widely used in Human Rehab and Sports Medicine, laser therapy is a non drug, non surgical treatment option that has been proven to reduce pain and inflammation, increase mobility and speed healing from injury or surgery. To learn more about this treatment option, please ask one of our staff members. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have and discuss whether or not this treatment option would benefit your pet. It is important to note that laser treatments are cumulative in nature, which means results will typically improve over time. The length and frequency of treatment will vary based on your pet’s condition and overall health. Dr. Morris will recommend a treatment plan specific to your pet’s condition.

Dental cleaning really makes a difference!

So, you’ve done a great thing, you got your pets teeth scaled and polished. Did you know that if you don’t do any at-home dental care, your pets teeth will probably need another professional cleaning in about 6-12 months! (maybe even less, depending on breed) We here at MACC send some at-home dental care with you when you take your pet home after every dental cleaning.

Food: For dogs and cats, we offer two different brands of dental formula food. Royal Canin Dental and Hills T/D. Both work in a similar manner. Unlike regular kibble, that just break apart when the tooth comes in contact with it, these kibble stay together, and force the teeth to go in and out of the kibble many times.

This abrasive action acts like a toothbrush to help remove any tartar that might be forming. Both of these diets can be used as a maintenance diet, or you can just give a few kibble of the dental diet mixed in with your pet’s regular food. We do strongly recommend that once your pets teeth have been professionally cleaned that they stay on a dental diet life-long. We will provide either a dental formula, or a water additive called Breathalyzer, to get you started with your home care. This blue liquid was developed by a veterinarian and is mixed into your pet’s drinking water. Breathalyzer has anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties to it, helps freshen your pets breath, and keeps tartar and plaque from building up as fast.

Another great dental care product is Greenies. I haven’t met a dog yet that doesn’t love Greenies. A veterinarian and a clinical nutritionist developed this product to help freshen breath with the natural advantages of chlorophyll. Its abrasive action helps to decrease buildup of tartar and plaque. Greenies also help ‘clean’ the whole digestive tract, and yes your pets stool might have a greenish color, this is normal however. This is an at-home dental care product that both you and your dog will enjoy! My cats and even my rats love them too!
